Goals are what give us the ability to measure our growth as people. A good goal can be something tangible like losing 10 pounds, or it can be internal like conquering a fear. What's important is that you can clearly define what it means to achieve the goal.
Some goals are easy to define but some can be a little more abstract. Say your goal is to become a successful web designer. What does that mean? What is success? If success is being able to make a living doing something you love, what do you need to live comfortably? Drill down into your goals and really define as specifically as possible what achieving the goal means.
The most important thing isn't the destination however, it's the journey. What are the steps you need to take to reach your goal? It's not enough to just have a quantifiable goal, you need a plan of attack. Something you can use to track your progress. Looking back to see how far you've come, being able to track where you are is very encouraging.
